Christ’s Self-sacrificing Life Is Our Lesson Book

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.

Psalm 92:1, 2

Practical Christianity means laboring together with God every day; working for Christ, not now and then, but continuously. A neglect to reveal practical righteousness in our lives is a denial of our faith and of the power of God. God is seeking for a sanctified people, a people set apart for His service, a people who will heed and accept the invitation “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me.”

How earnestly Christ prosecuted the work of our salvation! What devotion His life revealed as He sought to give value to fallen humanity by imputing to every repenting, believing sinner the merits of His spotless righteousness! How untiringly He worked! In the temple and the synagogue, in the streets of the cities, in the marketplace, in the workshop, by the seaside, among the hills, He preached the gospel and healed the sick. He gave all there was of Himself, that He might work out the plan of redeeming grace.

Christ was under no obligation to make this great sacrifice. Voluntarily He pledged Himself to bear the punishment due to the transgressor of His law. His love was His only obligation, and without a murmur He endured every pang and welcomed every indignity that was part of the plan of salvation. The life of Christ was one of unselfish service, and His life is our lesson book. The work that He began we are to carry forward.

With His life of toil and sacrifice before them, can those who profess His name hesitate to deny self, to lift the cross and follow Him? He humbled Himself to the lowest depths that we might be lifted to the heights of purity and holiness and completeness. He became poor that He might pour into our poverty-stricken souls the fullness of His riches. He endured the cross of shame that He might give us peace and rest and joy, and make us partakers of the glories of His throne.

Should we not appreciate the privilege of working for Him, and be eager to practice self-denial and self-sacrifice for His sake? Should we not give back to God all that He has redeemed, the affections He has purified, and the body that He has purchased, to be kept unto sanctification and holiness?–The Review and Herald, April 4, 1912.

GAA’S REVIVAL SERIES

Our Juniors and Seniors at Greeneville Adventist Academy worked hard for weeks studying and preparing for a Revival Series called Jesus Saves. This Revival Series was truly unique. It was based on the Parables that Jesus taught, found in the synoptic Gospels. The sermons went into detail on each parable while the preacher weaved in their own testimony about how Jesus continues to work the work of redemption in their life and in yours! It was a remarkable series resulting in 11 young people deciding to give their lives to Jesus and the service of the Kingdom by being Baptized!!!

AMEN! GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!

A SPECIAL THANK YOU!

Dear Members,

We want to thank you for being such a valuable member of our family here at Greeneville Seven-Day Adventist Church. You are always so respectful and kind to the people we serve and to others. I’m sure you brighten their days with your smile and encouraging words.

Reaching out to and taking the time to help is no easy task, and you recognize the need of the people we serve and step up to take action to ensure all are blessed through your services. You truly exhibit the character of Jesus. It takes a special person to always be so kind but also sensitive to the needs of each individual. A person with Christ in their hearts.

We want to thank the volunteers at the Community Service Center for their hard work and dedication each week. Especially those who work in the food pantry. We want to thank those who volunteer their time helping with the Worship service each week, the potlucks, the Children’s Ministry, Pathfinders, Adventurers, Sabbath School, Audio and Video, Janitorial work, all Deacons, all Deaconess, all Elders, and the whole Finance Team. Especially each and every person who volunteers their time to serve God; THANK YOU!

You truly represent our values at Greeneville SDA Church, and we would love to continue working with you and for you throughout the rest of this year and the years to follow.

Thank you again for showing such kindness to the people we help. You make our mission possible, and we couldn’t be more grateful for amazing volunteers like you.

God Can Use Common Skills

And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the Lord hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; and he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.

Exodus 35:30, 31

Greetings Church Family,

Skill in the common arts is a gift from God. He provides both the gift and wisdom to use the gift aright. When He desired a work done on the tabernacle, He said, “See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: and I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship” (Exodus 31:2, 3). Through the prophet Isaiah the Lord said, “Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech. Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and break the clods of his ground?

“When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cumin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place? For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him. For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cumin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cumin with a rod. Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen. This also cometh forth from the Lord of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working” (Isaiah 28:23-29).

God dispenses His gifts as it pleases Him. He bestows one gift upon one, and another gift upon another, but all for the good of the whole body. It is in God’s order that some shall be of service in one line of work, and others in other lines—all working under the selfsame Spirit. The recognition of this plan will be a safeguard against emulation, pride, envy, or contempt of one another. It will strengthen unity and mutual love.—Counsels to Parents and Teachers, 314, 315.
